How do you interpret his body language...?

At a dance when I was grinding with my date, my back was towards him because...ehhem we were grinding, but he would interlock his fingers with mine, and I would try to get him to put his hands on my waist but he would just hold right below my bust...and only while my hands were interlocked with his...when a song was over he would also hold me by my arms, like by my shoulders and rub up and down... do these gestures sound friendly or flirty?
