WHAT DOES HIS BODY LANGUAGE MEAN TOWARDS ME WHEN HE DOES THIs?

im 17 and the guy i like is 18,we were driving along listening to our favorate music and when we stopped at a red light he looks at me smiling and pats his hand on my leg and rubs it fast then he put his hand back on his steering wheel smiling,i know it means hes affectionate,but it almost seems like he was triend to tell me im glad your here i dont know.why did he do this like what does it mean??
