Fix body language

A question about body language and the interpretation of it.?

I am dating a guy who might as well be considered my boyfriend (I think all that stands in the way of that title change is us having the dreaded talk, but I digress.) Both of us are introverts and tend on the shy side, though within the last month we seemed to have turned a corner and what shyness there was between us is quickly disappearing (which I believe is because a new level of trust was established during that time.) He does a lot of the media work at his church and there is a small media booth he works in at the back of the sanctuary. Sometimes before the service I'll go back there with him. He's busy so we don't really talk but the silence is a comfortable one. There's not much room in there so I usually lean against the wall with my hands folded behind my back. My question is, how might he interpret this? Is there a chance I might I be accidentally sending out bad signals through my body language? I don't want to confuse things by coming off as giving mixed signals.

  1. I think you're making something out of nothing - obviously you're getting along well - just ENJOY it.
  2. you have tasted from the tree of knowledge, now you must change..................
  3. Ask him what he thinks.
  4. just go with the flow ....if ur both happy ...why push it
  5. don't wear tight clothing. Stand back so you;re not in his personnal space
  6. I've heard hands behind the back suggests one is hiding something
  7. That doesn't sound like bad body language, you're fine I'm sure. Try not to spend too much time in your head about this guy, it can misguide you a bit.
  8. In this situation, I would interpret this as you not wanting to get in the way while I am working.
  9. nah, u would look like someone thats trying to get comforatable from standing
  10. Mixed signals? Like as in him thinking that you don't like him because you aren't talking to him but just standing there. I think that your presence is very pleasing to him. But if you are concerned about being in the room with him while he is working, ask him if your being there is disturbing to him. But I think you are fine. You have nothing to worry about. All he is thinking about is the equipment.
  11. Are you standing that way so that there is no chance of you touching him? It sounds as though you two do not have any kind of physical relationship or you wouldn't be so paranoid about how he might "interpret" your body language. Someone needs to make the first move at some point or all you have is a friendship.
  12. Hands behind back while leaning on a wall is not a "signal", it is just a way most people stand. True body language comes out during conversations (or when your trying to send a signal). I do not think you are sending any wrong tones. If you are worried you can change your stance some, but with that you might end up being in his way.
  13. well what i have found is that men (speaking as one) will some times miss inturpret your body language. just ack normal around him and then he wont be getting sutch mixed fealings. most inportently let your eyes do the talking. thats the first thing i look at and read are the eyes they are the windows to the soul and your true sell will aper there.
  14. At most he couold interpret tjat ypi are bored. But I really doubt it, you are just over reading everything, I do this alot too, especially during dates. Let him know that you like spending time with him while your in the booth, or the next time you cant make it when he is working, make a medium deal about how you like to be there with him instead of whatever else you have to do. Other than that, you should be cool, and it doesn;'t always have to be a dreaded talk, just pop out the question, if he cant handle it, maybe he cant handle a relationship, dont expect him to say anything smooth, but just go for it.

  16. You are really overthinking this relationship. Body language is really most significant when you first meet someone since that is all they have to go on at that time. By now there should be many other facets of your relationship on which to make judgements.
  17. I think we all learn at some point in early adulthood that body langauge is not as accurate as we were led to believe early on. perhaps he interprets your leaning as wall leaning. sounds cute to me.
  18. If you stand against the wall with your hands behind you and LICK YOUR LIPS in a provocative way he might think, uhhh....... NO! LOL You're fine! I love reading that you go to the same church and that he's so involved. That's wonderful. Hopefully you have a very chaste relationship and it stays that way while you date and get to know each other better. I FIRMLY believe that God has planned just THE right person for His kids. So allow yourselves to slowly get to know each other and don't worry about things like that, while you discover where you 'fit' into each others lives and futures. Body language IS a real part of communication, that is true. But in the situation you describe, it's quite obvious to anyone that you're just enjoying being NEAR him, yet trying to stay out of the way and not interfere with his tasks at hand. He probably thinks you're being very sensitive to his needs and appreciates it!
